Permit Information

Permits are offered to students who would like to attend Mar Vista, but do not reside within our school boundaries.  Acceptance on a permit is based on:  1) space availability and 2) meeting eligibility criteria.  Falsification of information will result in the applicant’s immediate removal from the school site.

SCHOOL FOR ADVANCED STUDIES (SAS) PERMIT

The SAS permit is intended for K-5th grade students who are identified gifted by LAUSD or demonstrate the ability to work above grade level, think critically, and problem solve.  Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria set by the District.  To apply for an SAS permit, go to LAUSD Unified Enrollment

For more information and resources, go to the LAUSD GATE/SAS website.

SAS ON-TIME APPLICANTS:

  • The on-time application window is Oct 1 - Nov 15, 2024.  For more information, go to LAUSD Unified Enrollment

  • Verification of Eligibility form must be submitted by Dec. 6, 2024 to the District.

  •
  • Acceptance and waitlists are generated by a computerized lottery system.

  • Schools are not permitted to give out waitlist numbers to parents.  Families will be called from the waitlist starting in May and continuing into August as space permits.

  • Priority for acceptance is given to siblings for the same school of attendance and choice.

SAS LATE APPLICANTS:

  • Late application window opens Feb. 1st.

  • Students are placed on the school's late waitlist as applications are submitted by families via Unified Enrollment (not a lottery).

  • Eligibility verification is completed by the school of acceptance, if and when the student is accepted to the school.

  • Sibling priority is not given for late applicants.

SAS PERMIT FOR SIBLINGS:

  • For incoming K-5th grade siblings applying for an SAS permit at LAUSD Unified Enrollment, parents must submit an online application by the due date (in mid-November) to receive sibling priority.

  • An applicant who submits an on-time application through Unified Enrollment, meets the eligibility criteria, and has a sibling at Mar Vista (in the year of enrollment), is given selection priority through the District’s automated computer system.

  • The parent is responsible for ensuring that the sibling’s name is included in the application and the address on file at the school is the same as the applicant.

  • Late applications do NOT receive sibling priority.

  • For current students of Mar Vista who would like to enroll a sibling, please complete the Sibling Non-Resident Interest Form, available on the Weekly News starting on the first Monday of February.  The form is used by the principal to help current families with enrollment options.
